I am calling this lesson segment The Habit. And while I am not actually going to full on philosophize about habits and the science therein, (well...OK...maybe a little) I am going to talk in general terms about that subject, as you will see unpacked here soon.

While I chat about some ideas I really want to relay here, I will be processing out this week in the Memory Planner. A lot of ideas seen in this video are ones we have already unpacked thus far. Then I will talk about what is actually happening on the page.

One of the things you relay to me and I want to talk to you about is your time. Your want. And then how you use your time. I hear so very often that time is one of the biggest hurdles to doing the memory keeping…

The challenge of finding time.

The challenge of consistently working on your planner.

The challenge of life, which is actually what we are documenting, getting in the way.

It happens to all of us.

Now, first off…I get working a job. I get having a family. I get emergencies that come up. I get ‘there’s no darn milk in the fridge’. Or, ‘mom…do we have any bread?’ I get it. LIFE. Life is all around us.

But I am talking about the time that is not designated to the things like work life, family life, home management. I’m talking about the scrolling. The binging. The doing something outside of what you really want to make happen. So I am talking to YOU who really really want to get these stories on a page and bring the celebration to it by way of all the stuff that supports those stories.

Have you heard of the Pomodoro method? It’s an idea that I heard about a long time ago. Then bought the book. Because that’s what I do. This is not new or original here to this online course, but I’m gonna talk about it again. It’s the idea of setting a timer for 20 minutes and dedicating your focus and energy to the task you want to get done. It then transforms those 20 minutes into precious time. You realize you can’t get distracted. You can’t multi task. BUT…you can print photos. Or you can sketch the page. Or you can make an interactive element. Or you can write a weeks worth of journaling. Because you can! You can do any of those things in twenty minutes.

If you spent just twenty minutes a day five days a week in a month’s time on your memory planner that would be over six and a half hours dedicated JUST to the memory planner. That’s powerful! Gosh, I love numbers. And just for that reason. Six and a half hours a month! That’s MORE than enough time to get a month of weeks done in your planner. Or a month of stories in your scrapbook book album. Or TN.

Now…reverse this…how much time did you spend last week doom scrolling? Ok…never mind, we want to keep this up beat and positive here. So maybe don’t do THAT math.
